CHALLENGE

The Jamaican government faced persistent challenges in project delivery due to a lack of standardized project management practices across its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. These gaps resulted in inefficiencies, inconsistent project outcomes, and difficulties in controlling capital expenditure. To align with national development goals and drive economic growth, there was a critical need to upskill public sector officials, equip them with globally recognized methodologies, and embed project management discipline within the Public Investment Management System (PIMS) framework.

RESULTS

PMGI’s tailored training initiative reached 150 civil servants over a 12-month period, providing them with a structured curriculum aligned with international accreditation standards, including PMI® certification. With an expected certification rate of 80%, the program delivered measurable improvements in operational efficiency and project execution. This initiative established a robust foundation for modern project management in the public sector, directly supporting government objectives to optimize capital allocation and foster economic growth.

Through PMGI’s targeted intervention, 150 government officials successfully completed the training, with over 80% achieving PMI® certification. The initiative, delivered within a $14.5M JMD budget over 12 months, resulted in tangible enhancements in project delivery, productivity, and capital expenditure management across participating agencies. By embedding standardized methodologies and internationally recognized credentials, the program established a modern framework for public investment management that supports ongoing government transformation agendas and drives national development outcomes.
