A total of 59 students from three different cohorts graduated from their three month courses in project management from the Project Management Global Institute (PMGI) on Wednesday, December 17, 2014.
But students should see their success as only the beginning in achieving greater qualification.
“You must go for a globally recognised certification,” Dr Nsombi Jaja, CMC, PMP told graduates in her keynote address. The awards function took place at the Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
Meanwhile, graduates must look into the future and prepare for what lies ahead.
“The jobs that many of you hold may not exist in 10 years,” she said. “The organisation you work for may not exist.”
Graduates earned certificates for successfully completing Methods for Applying Management (MAPMc). Many now aim for the Project Management Institute’s globally acknowledged certification in Certified Associate Project Management (CAPM)® or Project Management Professional (PMP)®.
The intense workload that they had on the course, would “pale in comparison” to what they will find in real-world projects, Jaja said.
“The real work will now begin,” she said. “Dream lusty dreams – think big.”
Top achievers were Lesa Robinson from the January 2014 cohort, David Holdham from the May cohort and Raymond Logan from the September cohort. Logan was also the overall top student for the year.
“It was an intense but practical course,” Logan said, which taught the participants conflict resolution techniques among other aspects of project management. As a result he believed that he and the other graduates were destined for success.
“The future holds a place for us because of our acquired skills,” Logan said.
The PMGI is a Kingston-based, globally certified training institution, offering PMI approved courses in areas such as project management, business analysis, leadership and entrepreneurship.
